Irvine Welsh has packed out the venue tonight, there is standing room only.
Welsh's books have made him a cult figure within the writing world since the 1990s. Several of his books have become best sellers, and all have a mixture of comedy, drama and hard-hitting issues...the best-known being Trainspotting (1996) which was made into a box-office smash worldwide in 1996.
He tells us that he appeared in films of his own books, Trainspotting and The Acid House, though I am unsure of what or who everyone else seems to know!
Irvine is a big fan of Iggy Pop and a massive supporter of Hibernian Football Club in Edinburgh, Scotland.
He has lived briefly in Amsterdam, though he now has homes in Edinburgh and London.
His next book, which he talks about with great passion, promises to be just as successful.
