Queen Elizabeth | The Queen today opened the redeveloped castle in Oxford, with the sun shining she looked radiant in a pink suit.
The castle, formerly used as a prison, has been turned into a hotel, the Queen officially opened the ancient castle and jailhouse which has been transformed into a luxury hotel, restaurants and an art gallery.
The final part of the redevelopment of the 11th Century Oxford Castle will be completed in May.
The site includes St George's Tower and the Castle Mound, which are some of the oldest structures in the city.
The Malmaison chain has spent £20m on turning the prison at the centre of the site into a hotel.
The jail building is attached by a tunnel to the former county Assize Court.
It has not been used as a prison since the 1990s and more recently it has been used as a film set on several occasions, with stars such as Gerard Depardieu, Glenn Close and Brad Pitt filming there. |
